Rollie was generous enough to submit an excellent tutorial on the Ram he woodburned. He took a picture at a local zoo and that was the basis of the pattern he used. The photograph can be used by anyone who would also like to do the burn.
Since the Ram is mostly white it did present a challenge! First the image was traced onto the Italian Poplar. The first burn was to do the eyes. Most folks who do animal/people burns tend to do the eyes first. If the eyes can't be done correctly, then the rest of the burn will show that defect. Doing the eyes requires a lot of concentration, but when done right it is the first step in making an excellent image.

The progress shown below is the second step of the tutorial. In the first one ( click here to see it)  the concentration was on the eyes. The second stage the effort is on starting the hair and texturing the large horn.

The image below is part 3 of the tutorial and concentrates of the left horn as you look at the ram. I thought Rollie's description explained his progress well. "Tried to get the ambiance of the texture of the horn and from a fair distance I think it is coming close. My goal here is to establish the eyes, then the horns and then I thought it would be easier to fill in the face. There is some facial dabbling already but that was experimental. While the artist uses a variety of brushes and gets the desired effect, the burner must select the right pen to get the results. Whereas the artist usually knows in advance which brush will create the desired outcome, ....." "So the scrap wood gets a huge workout."
