What the heck is this section? Well, I thought that there should be an area where folks can post short articles of interest that don't fall into any of the other categories. So submit your thoughts and we will see if we can keep this section going. Heck you even get another free link, which will help with the Search Engine rankings and they have a long life because the Applied Pyrography Newsletters are kept on the web. |

Well, one thing all Internet users detest are the viruses, spyware, adware, and what not that gets put onto our computers. The recent virus got me to thinking about security again. I get so tired of the Internet being polluted by ignorance. If Internet users used anti virus software and other tools then the problems wouldn't exist. So why don't users protect themselves and others? I suspect the answer is that a lot of users are not technical or understanding of the world of the web. Tantamount to someone driving a car without a license or shooting a gun with no instruction. Anyone can buy a computer, hook it up, and they are online. However, responsible web users should understand some basics. The most basic of all is to have up to the date anti virus software. It is free and can be updated automatically. One I use that is free and well known is at: http://www.grisoft.com So why won't people do it? Who knows. Not only do they help the web and the users, but they prevent THEMSELVES from getting viruses. I almost think that if people can't keep up to date virus protection, then they should be banned from using the web. Harsh? Not really when you understand how simple it is to do. If a user can't handle this, then they really shouldn't be poking around cyberspace and infecting the rest of the more cognizant people. It is one thing for a person to look down the barrel of a gun and pull the trigger, quite another if they swing a loaded gun around in the midst of a group of innocent people. Spyware on your computer? Yes, all too many and I get tired of explaining the obvious to folks. Download Spy bot and Adaware. Free and simple to use. If folks don't help solve the problems then the net is going to go the way of CB radio. One only has to look at bathroom walls to see the "real" behavior of people when they are in private. There should be a software lockout by ISP's to prevent people who don't have updated anti virus software to be barred from accessing the internet....or a mandatory death penalty:) Now, do you want to know what I think of AOL? No, figured not:) |
